Enterprise Smalltalk Solutions
Major coorporations have been successfully using Smalltalk to support desktop and departmental systems with one to a few hundred users while working to utilize this technology to solve mission critical problems on an enterprise wide basis. These systems are at the core of multi-billion dollar processes in leading international financial companies serving a minimum of several thousand users in the banking and insurance communities.
To server this community, several fundamental changes in the way standard Smalltalk images are supported have been made. Further, to support the traffic, insure reliability, recoverability, and handle data access, transaction managers have been used. We will discuss what has been done to support multi-user single image transaction managed Smalltalk applications and what we can expect from this work in the near future.
