Transformation and Visualization of Abstractions
using the Intentional Programming System

Lutz Roeder, Bauhaus-Universitaet Weimar (*)

Abstract: Intentional Programming (IP) is a visionary approach to the future of Software Engineering currently under development at Microsoft Research. IP removes parsing technology from programming and uses a tree-like abstract graph for storing and manipulating source code. The tree machinery can be extended by introducing new abstractions called intentions. Extension methods specify the behavior of an intention during code generation, visualization, editing and debugging. New high-level domain-specific notations and optimizations will become possible. This paper describes experiences of the author using the Intentional Programming System. Furthermore, transformation and visualization concepts for programming abstractions are explained.
