Call for Papers N E T . O B J E C T D A Y S 2 0 0 0 Messekongresszentrum Erfurt, Germany October 9 – 12, 2000 After their great individual success, JavaDays, JIT, DJEK and STJA conferences (incl. GCSE) have now merged to form an even more attractive event: the Net.ObjectDays 2000 conference. The JavaDays was the German Java event last year in Düsseldorf. Net.ObjectDays 2000 embraces object-oriented topics such as Java, Smalltalk, components, UML, embedded Java, databases and generative design methodologies. And, at the same time it addresses the way how the internet is radically changing best programming practices by covering XML, E-commerce, security and web-based computing. Like its predecessors, Net.ObjectDays 2000 bridges the gap between universities and industry, between research and application. The conference provides a forum for OO- and web-developers both from industry and universities and for decision makers who will learn to look behind and beyond vendor presentations. The conference offers a variety of scientific and application related talks, tutorials, an exhibition, a vendor session and it carries on to present invited talks from respected international experts and trendsetters. The scientific program is run by four program committees, each with its own Call for Papers: - Java and the Java Platform - Universal Database Systems and XML - Object-Oriented Software Systems incl. Smalltalk - Generative and Component-based Software Engineering Call for Papers on Universal Database Systems and XML Universal database systems enhance the capabilities of traditional database systems by their ability to handle vastly any kind of data, including text, image, audio, and video data, and to provide access to these data via SQL-like query languages. They do so by exploiting object-orientation to various extents. Universal database systems are particularly relevant to the Web, as they can provide input to content generators for Web pages, and can handle queries issued over the Internet. As universal databases hence start talking to each other over the Web, there is a fast growing interest in using the eXtensible Markup Language XML as the standard exchange format. As a result, database systems have begun to export, say, relational data to XML, and conversely to store XML data in relational tables. XML is on its way to become the communication and storage standard of the Web. In order to foster a lively exchange of perspectives on the conference topics, the program committee encourages contributions from both researchers and practitioners. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: advanced relational database systems handling new types of data in databases storing and retrieving multimedia data SQL extensions for universal data access object-oriented database systems object query languages Web interfaces for database systems experience in using XML query languages and systems for XML database interfaces for XML DTD development XML server technology XML-based middleware XML-related languages, like XSL, XQL, XPointer XML grammars and streams XML languages (application of XML) XML as integral part of larger software systemsnter-business XML and business (XML/EDI) XML and E-Commerce Submission Guidelines: - Research Papers: (max. 10 pages DIN A4) - Experience Report: (from 4 to max. 10 pages A4) Research contributions are expected to assess the proposed approach with respect to its practical relevance, while industrial papers should highlight open problems and resulting challenges for research. Conference languages are German and English. Accepted contributions will be published in proceedings in printed and electronic (CD-ROM) form. We intend to invite authors of excellent submissions to provide a possibly extended version of their work (in English) for a book published by a major publishing company.
