International Workshop
Web-Integrated-Manufacturing (WIM)
Trends for the production of the future
in conjunction with
Net.ObjectDays 2002
Erfurt, Germany - October 7th to 10th 2002
Aims of the Workshop
Today's markets are characterised by increasing turbulence, which
forces industrial companies world wide to become more and more flexible.
This flexibility is needed in all levels of industry and especially
within production. With the conception and implementation of re-configurable
organisational structures the technical resources also have to be
adapted to the new paradigm. Hence, technology and techniques must
follow organisation. Against this background, recently the concept
of distributed intelligence/ distributed systems is on its way to
more and more enter the field of factory automation. Accordingly,
internetbased technologies will be used more and more within this
field to be able to use their potentials in the fields of flexibility,
universality, and cost degression.
Whereas the use of PC based field controllers for purposes like robot
control meanwhile is well accepted on the factory floor, the use of
Java enabled control systems and Ethernet TCP/IP based communication
are still at the beginning. Even if a standardised industrial application
will require a huge amount of work - especially in the fields of Real-Time
Ethernet and Real-Time Java - the potentials of Web Integrated Manufacturing
should not be lost out of the scope of industrial research and development.
Focal points:
- Why using a new production paradigm - Benefits of distributed
systems and internet technology on the factory floor
- Java within industral automation
- Hard Real-Time with Java - Approaches and solutions
- Plug-and-Play-Technologies on the factory floor
- Agent-Technologies within industrial automation
- Ethernet within industrial automation
- Security and Safety within internet technologies for distributed
automation
The workshop is intended to bring researchers and users from the fields
of industrial automation and software engineering together to ensure
an exchange of experiences. Therefore, research and application papers
are welcome.
Paper submission:
Papers for the workshop should not exceed 7 pages formated in the
way as proposed by Springer for the LNCS publications given under
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.
The paper submission should be done in an electronical way. The papers
should be sent to axel.klostermeyer@mb.uni-magdeburg.de.
In case you wish to submit AND you do not have the possibility to
submit a paper electronically, please contact the organizers beforehand.
Instructions for Submissions:
Interested participants are strongly encouraged to submit full papers
in an electronic format (pdf or postscript) to the workshop chair
by 30 June 2002. The preferred length of papers is 5000-6000 words
(regular papers) and 3000-4000 words (short papers). The format for
all papers will be one column, 10-point Times Roman or a similar typeface
with single line spacing. The formatting instructions and templates
for Word and TeX can be found at http://www.netobjectdays.org/. The
submissions will be fully reviewed by the workshop Program Committee
and accepted on the basis of quality of the contributions.
Proceedings:
The accepted workshop papers will be published in the official conference
proceedings and on CD-ROM. Excellent workshop papers will also be
included in an extra volume of best papers published with a major
publishing company.
Deadlines:
- Paper submission until: July 31st 2002
